This seminar will introduce the SEL-710 Motor Protection Relay and provide an explanation of thermal protection to accurately calculate the rotor heat for high-inertia starting applications. With an emphasis on induction motors, fundamental protection recommendations will be discussed. The protection recommendations will be based on IEEE Standard C37.96 (Guide for AC Motor Protection), IEEE Standard 242 (Recommended Practice for Protection and Control of Industrial and Commercial Power Systems), and SEL Distinguished Engineer Stan Zocholl’s book AC Motor Protection. SEL-710 Relay settings will be developed during the seminar for example motor applications
